The Conversation
You have helped thousands of people create scalable online income streams. What is the biggest misconception people have about building a digital business, and how do you help them overcome it?
The biggest misconception is that you need to do something seriously unique or never done before.
You do not.
Most people overcomplicate digital business because they are procrastinating or wanting the "perfect" idea that has not been done before. They also think they need the perfect logo, the perfect niche, the perfect funnel.
In reality, they just need to pick something that they can see is already working for somebody else, apply their own unique perspective to it and then stick to doing it for long enough to start seeing results.
The other big myth is that creating passive income is easy. It is not. It is very, very simple, but it is not necessarily easy. There is a difference. You still have to build trust, build demand and actually get good at marketing and sales. And this takes time.
"Do less, better." Instead of being busy being busy, strip it back to the steps that actually move the needle.
Your speciality lies in helping people launch digital offers without needing a massive audience or technical background. Can you walk us through your framework for someone who is just starting out with an idea but does not know where to begin?
I always say this: you do not need a big audience. You need the right people and a clear plan.
My approach is simple.
First, extract the gold from what you already know. Most people are sitting on years of experience and do not realise it is valuable. We turn lived experience, skills and results into a clear transformation.
Second, validate before you build. Do not disappear for six months creating a course nobody asked for. Speak to people. Have conversations. Pre-sell if possible. Prove there is a demand for what you do and people are willing to pay for it.
Third, build a simple launch. Create a focused launch window with strong messaging, real stories, clear outcomes and urgency.
Fourth, we focus on having a visibility strategy. We look at getting more known, building an email list and building your social media following. And we do so with an approach that looks at building solid relationships with our ideal clients rather than vanity metrics and virality. I help my clients create collaborations, get on podcasts, stages and speak in other people's communities and rooms.
- Clarity — know exactly what you do, for whom and why it matters.
- Courage — back yourself enough to be visible, pre-sell, and call the shot.
- Consistency — stay with it for long enough to actually see results.
From Guinness World Record holder to Channel 4 panellist to business strategist — you have worn many hats. How have these diverse experiences shaped your approach to teaching entrepreneurship, and what unexpected lessons have you brought from TV into the business world?
The biggest thing those experiences taught me is this: credibility and visibility will make the biggest difference to your brand and business.
This is what things like achieving a world record and being on TV can give you.
When I was on Channel 4's Steph's Packed Lunch for eighteen months, I saw first-hand how credibility from doing something like that helps you build relationships with people you would not have done, and how it positions you in people's minds differently. One appearance leads to another opportunity. One room leads to another room. People treat you differently when you are visible — and consistent with it.
Live TV teaches you something brutal. Attention is earned. You have seconds to make a point land. If you waffle, you lose people.
— Matt Hall
Which is why being clear about your messaging and being able to communicate that message clearly and concisely is key.
My background also means I am very comfortable challenging people — in the nicest possible way. I have seen what is possible. I have been in high-level rooms. So when someone plays small, I call it out.
Many aspiring entrepreneurs struggle with pricing their expertise and creating offers people actually want to buy. What is your advice for finding that sweet spot between value and viability?
Most people price based on their own insecurity. They think, "Who am I to charge that?" Wrong question.
The better question is, "What is this transformation worth to the person buying it?"
If you help someone increase their income, fix their health, improve their relationship or save years of frustration, that has massive value.
I would generally guide people to look at the market. Who is already doing something similar to what you offer. Find the lowest price and the highest price, and then price yourself where you want to fit in that range.
And not from a place of insecurity — from where you want to be positioned. If you want to be high end, go there. You just then need to strategically look at what you need to do to ensure your service is high end.
Your Success School membership has become a thriving community. What role does community play in business success, and how can entrepreneurs leverage it effectively, especially when starting from scratch?
Community is absolutely everything. All business is about relationships, and more than ever people are looking for real relationships with people they can genuinely trust and align with.
I also genuinely believe proximity changes standards. When you are surrounded by other people building, launching, selling and taking action, it is hard for it not to pull you up.
Inside my online membership Success School, people do not just get content. They get accountability, shared momentum and opportunities to connect with other potential clients or collaborators. It is a genuinely lovely community with over three hundred people in there currently. The support is like nothing I have seen anywhere else and the engagement is genuinely high. There is so much opportunity amongst the people inside there.
Lead it properly. Encourage members to connect with each other. Be actively seen within the community — do not outsource you. And make sure members actually feel seen.
Looking ahead, what trends are you seeing in the online business space, and what advice would you give to someone launching a digital business in 2026 to ensure they stay relevant and profitable?
The biggest shift is trust is lower than ever at the moment. AI can now create content, write emails, design graphics and even replicate voices. That means average content that is not by a real human is about to flood the internet even more than it already has.
So the edge will not be about teaching information. It will be reputation.
In 2026 and beyond, the people who win will build a strong, visible personal brand, get in real rooms — not just online — and share human opinions where they show they actually have meaningful insight, and stand for something instead of trying to please everyone.
We are in what is being called a "trust recession." If you are launching in 2026, do not hide behind automation. Use AI as a tool, but not your personality.
— Matt Hall
Double down on human connection. Speak on stages, collaborate, show your face, share real stories and care about going the extra mile and adding those extra little human touches where possible. Build depth of relationships and do not just focus on reach.
And most importantly, think entrepreneurially. Do not just sell a course. Build long-term assets, build a solid brand and build a community.
The internet is not going anywhere. But the easy days of putting out an offer on a social media post and making easy sales are gone. We have to work harder now to be trusted. And I think that is a good thing — as it will force people to be better, which in turn means the overall standards online will rise.
I think it is an exciting time. The ones who work the hardest, genuinely care, and treat it like a real business can absolutely thrive.
- Reputation, not reach, becomes the real currency.
- Use AI as a tool — never as a substitute for your personality.
- Get into real rooms; visibility offline still moves the needle.
- Build long-term assets: a brand, a community, a body of work.
- Treat the trust recession as an opportunity to stand out by being human.
